» Amanda Kendle - Love that Spaetzle and Maultaschen ...

Bridget, your poll on food made me realise something surprising, that I've grown to love German food! Hearty it is, and when I arrived here, much to heavy to enjoy. But after a couple of years, it's really grown on me. A couple of weeks ago when we had a chilly day, there was nothing better than sitting inside a cosy German restaurant and enjoying a big plate of Spaetzle (although I eyed my friend's Maultaschen enviously too). The Swabian food (SW Germany) is particularly tasty, I now think! I never would've thought I'd grow to love it, but tastes can change!
cheers

Hey Amanda,

Isn't that the truth, that our tastes can change. I haven't tried Spaetzle or Maultaschen, however, so I suppose it's about time I do, right? Think I can find it on the Riviera? If not, I may be taking a trip to Berlin in November. I'll definitely seek it out. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hmm, my guess is probably no Maultaschen on the Riviera. But you should be able to track some good German food down in Berlin, and cold November is a perfect time for it!

» lisamarie71 - Italian food is the best food in Europe

In response to Love that Spaetzle and Maultaschen ... posted by akendle:

Dear Bridget,

I noticed that you did not include Italian food as one of the options in your poll, but I would like to wholeheartedly vote for Italian as the best food. The dishes, ingredients, and preparation methods vary from region to region, but one thing all regional Italian cuisines share is the use of the freshest, highest quality ingredients to prepare simple but delicious food. I also think that the standards of what is considered "normal" or "acceptable" quality are so much higher when compared to most other parts of Europe, the US, and Canada. Of course, North America has great cuisine and so do many other European countries, but Italy stands out as the absolute best, in my humble opinion...

Buon appetito!!

Hi Lisa,

Yes, I, too, love Italian food. I didn't include it as an option in the poll simply because it's not part of my coverage area for Western Europe. It was even tougher to leave it out because I live in an area of France (the Riviera) where Italian food is more the norm than French food.

Anyway, thanks for mentioning it. Ah, it makes me want to indulge in a huge bowl of pasta. : )
