» Feature Writer Barbara Rogers - How we cope with long flights

I loved your battle plan for overseas flights. I go back and forth between Boston and Milan a lot, and it is deadly. My trick is to stay up all night the night before I fly. Then I'm so sleepy that I fall asleep easily and sleep soundly on the plane. It's not the best way, but it's a way.

How do other people endure really long flights? We must all have tricks to share.

I find it nearly impossible to sleep on planes. On a trip last Spring to Italy, I tossed and turned all the way, and pretty much wrecked my first full day in Florence. I had several friends there to help me out; one gave me an Ambien (yes, I know it's prescription, but whateverrr). That little bitty pill worked like a charm! And, no hangover the next day. So, for people like me who have a hard time sleeping on planes, I recommend medication when nothing else works. happy

The real question now is how am I going to cope with my upcoming flight back to France?! Luckily, the restrictions are being loosened daily, but I'm glad I wasn't on any of those flights where you couldn't bring water, books or toothpaste.
