Top Travel-Related Jobs

Jobs that require a lot of travel are getting a bad name. But there are still some positions where traveling around the world is a major perk.

I read an article the other day about how business travel is no longer seen as a perk for most business people. Many see it as time away from their families, friends and the comforts of home. Personally, the very few business trips I've gone on have been wonderful, but very little time was spent on anything other than the actual travel and the business. There wasn't time to take in a football game or go sightseeing. Dinners were pretty much the highlights.

Then, I met Will and Rick. The pair were enjoying the French Riviera nightlife as a business trip brought them to Nice. Their job? They fly Victoria's Secrets' models around the world to exotic locations. Six or seven times each year they make a trip to Paris. Lots of trips to Milan, Will said. The Caribbean. Hawaii. At least once a year to Nice.

I then emailed a friend of mine who is a Navy pilot in the States and told him about Will and Rick. "I am so quitting the Navy," he wrote back. "I have found my true calling." But seriously, the models aside (I hear they're a bit temperamental), imagine your job being to fly to exotic locations and then hang out for four or five days ... with nothing to do but soak in the sights, the atmosphere, the nightlife. Oh, and of course, everything is paid for.

A lot of people comment about how great my job is - and it is - but next to Will and Rick, it pales in comparison. So, it got me thinking about other interesting travel-related jobs:

Working on a yacht or cruise ship: It's a lot of work and for generally very picky clients. Sure, you get to travel around to cool locations, but you're also cramped up with all the other servants. Not so great.

Teaching English as a second language: You can see some amazing places, but the pay is miserable.

Commercial airline flight attendant: In the early days of commercial aviation, this was a fantastic option. My aunt, who spent 30+ years as an international flight attendant for TWA, flew all over the world and would have weeklong layovers. Not so these days.

What else? There have to be some other fantastic jobs out there that include a ton of travel. Suggestions?
