Both Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines have recently announced new flights from the U.S. to Europe. Bring on the competition, I say.
Delta is planning flights from Atlanta to Vienna, Austria and Prague, Czech Republic. It also has new flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Pisa/Florence, Italy and Bucharest, Romania.
Meanwhile, Northwest will be launching flights from Detroit to Duesseldorf, Germany and Brussels, Belgium. Additionally, Northwest will launch the first international flights from Hartford, Conn. Their destination? Amsterdam.
A few weeks ago, Delta announced the possibility of flights from Salt Lake City, Utah to Paris. That route has yet to be determined, but all this adds up to more options - and hopefully cheaper options - for those of us who travel from the U.S. to Europe fairly frequently.
According to airline spokespersons, the trans-Atlantic routes garner higher profits and as more people are traveling abroad, it just makes sense.
Since these flights won’t actually take off until 2007, it will take awhile to see whether the price of flights between the U.S. and Europe go down. A girl can dream, right?
