As part of its expanded transatlantic service, Northwest Airlines and joint venture partner KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are adding flights to a number of European routes.
Northwest Airlines, in cooperation with its joint venture partner KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, has started an expansion of its transatlantic flights. The expansion includes increased service from Detroit to Frankfurt, Detroit to Dusseldorf, Hartford to Amsterdam, Detroit to Amsterdam and Boston to Amsterdam.
In order to accommodate the trip across the pond, Northwest will fly Boeing 757-200 aircraft that are being fitted with “winglets,” which improve fuel efficiency and extend the range of the aircraft. Additionally, the airline is also increasing the distance between the rows by up to four inches.
Northwest will add a second daily nonstop flight to the Detroit to Frankfurt route during the peak summer travel period from May 7 until Oct. 27.
“With a second Detroit-Frankfurt daily flight, our customers will now have greater flexibility and convenience when traveling to this key German business city,” said Phil Haan, executive vice president – international, alliances and information technology and chairman of NWA Cargo. “The additional frequency is an integral part of our trans-Atlantic expansion plan utilizing our 757 aircraft, which includes service to two new European destinations.”
The increased Detroit-Dusseldorf service begins June 5. Through its Amsterdam hub, Northwest/KLM serve 11 German cities including Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hannover, Munster/Osnabruck, Stuttgart, Bremen, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Munich and Nuremberg.
Beginning June 15, Northwest/KLM will launch new service between Detroit and Brussels. It will also begin service between Hartford, Conn., and Amsterdam on July 1. Starting July 1, the carrier will increase frequencies between Detroit and Amsterdam and will add a second daily flight from Boston to Amsterdam on July 15.
In addition to the expanded services mentioned above, Northwest/KLM offer daily service between Amsterdam and Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Detroit, Los Angeles, Memphis, Seattle, San Francisco, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York, Newark and Washington D.C. Additionally, service is available between Amsterdam and Mexico City, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, British Columbia.
Northwest’s European flights are available via the airline’s Web site, www.nwa.com, Northwest Reservations Centers, 1-800-447-4747 or through your travel agent.
