A trip to Berlin offers a range of experiences, but an evening at the unsicht-Bar is one you won't likely forget. The "blind restaurant" offers a peak into a new world.

Berlin's unsicht-Bar is an exceptional dining experience not to be missed.

Variety is the spice of life and restaurants. From standing near a kebab stand, devouring the Turkish treat to being waited on hand and foot at a fancy French restaurant trying to figure out what "tartare de la beouf" is exactly, dining experiences vary. Some are good, some are horrible, a few are great, but most have this in common: they're fairly unmemorable.

Unsicht-Bar is the exception.

After an evening spent eating, drinking and laughing in total darkness, whether you love or hate the concept, it's an evening you will never forget. That's right, diners devour their meals in absolute pitch black.

"This has been, and I suspect will be, the most creative dining experience I will ever have in my life," my dining companion, Jules Summers said. "I am grateful to the parent seed planters who took an interesting and insightful idea and made it reality. I will never forget the experience."

Diners at the unsicht-Bar are greeted by a very normal, lit foyer, with the only unusual aspect being asked to choose your meal from this location. The restaurant offers the choice of vegetarian, lamb, beef, poultry and "surprise" meals with the option of three or four courses: appetizers, salad, entree and dessert.

Despite being in English, I had no idea what to expect - other than some type of poultry - from my choice. Descriptions of the meals are poetic - and vague. For example, the poultry main dish is described as: "Multi-continental meeting of illustrious ingredients - golden medallions from America, an exotic ragout, and a noble modern vegetable breed from Europe."

Our waiter guided us - my hands on his shoulders, my friend's hands on my shoulders, etc. - through what seemed like a bit of a maze to get to the dining room. Our waiter then sat each of us, helped us find the lay of the table, encouraged us to eat sans silverware and then hurried off to get our dinner started. I'm not about to give away the surprise, but suffice to say that the food is excellent and prepared and presented to be eaten in the dark.

While in Berlin, an evening spent at the unsicht-Bar is certainly one you won't forget.
